WUSF Public Media Completes Spring 2012 Membership Campaigns for WUSF TV, WUSF 89.7 and Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9

Support for the public media organization remains strong throughout the Tampa Bay region

TAMPA, Fla. (April 2, 2012) – WUSF Public Media wrapped up the last of its spring membership campaigns on Friday, March 30, 2012. The public media organization ran its on-air fundraising campaigns for the three stations during the month of March. According to Cathy Coccia, development director at WUSF, the success of WUSF’s fundraising efforts are a real testament to the value viewers and listeners place on the content provided by the public media organization.

“We cannot thank our members and the community enough for this outpouring of support,” she said. “During continued tough economic times, the generous contributions of our viewers and listeners will allow us to continue providing the valuable public television and public radio programming they have come to depend on.”

The WUSF TV campaign kicked off on Friday, March 2, and concluded on Sunday, March 18. The station heard from more than 1,400 viewers, contributing just over $206,000. The funds raised for WUSF TV will be used to pay for television programming. The station reaches more than 500,000 viewers each week throughout its broadcast area.

The Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9 campaign began on Saturday, March 17. At its conclusion on Friday, March 23, more than 750 listeners had contributed $97,000. The funds will be used to pay for classical music programming. Throughout its 10-county broadcast area, the station reaches more than 59,000 listeners each week.

The WUSF 89.7 campaign began on Tuesday, March 20 and ran through Friday, March 30. The station heard from more than 3,300 listeners supporting the news and information and all night jazz format. The contributions for WUSF 89.7 totaled $390,000. The funds raised will be used to pay for the programming on WUSF 89.7. Throughout its 12-county broadcast area, the station reaches more than 284,000 listeners each week.

In total, WUSF Public Media raised more than $693,000, hearing from just over 5,500 donors.
