"The Seven Last Words of Christ" by Theodore Dubois
General Event Information
GOOD FRIDAY presentation of “The Seven Last Words of Christ” by Théodore Dubois. Friday evening, March 29, 2013 at 7:00pm.
The First United Methodist Church Concert Choir and Soloists will present this historic, inspirational musical work for the congregation and guests from the community on Friday, March 29th at 7:00pm. “The Seven Last Words of Christ” by Dubois is based on texts from both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible as well as beloved prayers of the church. It tells the story of the crucifixion, of those last few hours that our Lord lived before dying on the cross.
Soprano soloist Jeanne Larrañaga and Baritone, Bernard Hahnke will be joined by guest Tenor Soloist Robert Beane in this dramatic musical portrayal of those last words spoken by our Savior on Good Friday. From the First Word “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” to the final heart-wrenching sigh “It is finished”, the audience will experience some of the most beautiful and emotionally moving music ever written for voices. The Choir will represent the crowds who gathered that awful day to witness the crucifixion. Accompanied by String Quintet, Harp, Organ, Timpani and conducted by Director of Music, Mary Mozelle, this presentation is going to be a very important way for all of us to reflect on the suffering of Christ.
Open to the public. Free-will Offering.
