Gingrich Says "We Shouldn't Give (Unemployed) 99 Weeks To Do Nothing"

| In a response about illegal immigration, Ginrich says, "And then we say, we can't get people to work, well, no, you've given them 99 weeks of money, with no requirement for any effort." |
Saying “we shouldn't give people 99 weeks to do nothing,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says all recipients of unemployment insurance should be required to sign up for a job training program.
In an interview with 970 WLFA radio in Tampa, Gingrich said unemployed Americans should be willing to do agricultural jobs being done by illegal immigrants.
The GOP presidential candidate was asked about Florida’s large agriculture industry which depends in part on illegal immigrants.
“It should also be dependent on Americans who are unemployed,” Gingrich replied.
“I mean, what is there about our current system? And one example is, we should change unemployment compensation so if you need unemployment compensation, you also sign up for a training program run by a business.
"I mean, we shouldn't give people 99 weeks to do nothing. And then we say, we can't get people to work, well, no, you've given them 99 weeks of money, with no requirement for any effort."
“There’s an oddity that we have a very high unemployment rate, but in fact, people won’t do, there are whole sections where you say, basically, unless you allow foreigners to come here, the work just won’t get done.”
He said he does believe there should be a guest worker program, run by “American Express, Visa or Master Card, because they actually know how to run those kind of programs with minimal fraud.”

Get a clue!
Well being one of the MANY 99 weeker's whose unemployment ran out last Aug, and still not working, I think Mr. Ginrich should get a clue.... I went through every class that the dept of labor offered, I even did the Georgia Work Ready Certification, which is supposed to help when applying for jobs. I earned a Gold Certificate, I signed up for the work study program but was never called, I then went back to school, did a 2 yr degree in 48 weeks. Graduated with top Honors in Aug. So Tell me what else am I to do.. OH wait, that doesn't count the 1000 applications I submitted, including driving to places to hand them my resume, or to fill out an application only to be told that everything is done on line and they wont even take your resume. I am trying to break into a new field b/c I am no longer able to work the jobs I used to do because of a medical problem. My truck was going to be repossessed for the $900 balance on it, after paying for 5 1/2 yrs on time without missing any payments, and the bank refusing to help me. Thank GOD my sister and her husband helped me keep my vehicle, now my friends whom I have helped out in the past have come through and are helping me now, or else I would be homeless.. I have NOT sat idly by collecting unemployment, I have made every attempt that I know of, but to no avail, and I have people that could vouch for me. With that being said I think Mr Ginrich needs to talk to these companies who are discriminating against the long term unemployed b/c we have been unemployed for so long, and also because of our age.. do something bout the companies having hiring freezes b/c the economy, stop blaming the people who have no control..!!!
