Slain Police Officer Arnulfo Crispin Funeral Today

LAKELAND (2011-12-27) -

Funeral services are today for Lakeland police officer Arnulfo Crispin.

Gov. Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi are expected to join thousands of law enforcement officers at the funeral. An American flag that flew over the World Trade Center site after the 9/11 attacks will be flown at the funeral service.

Crispin was fatally shot in the head while questioning some men while on patrol Dec. 19. Another officer who arrived minutes after Crispin's last radio call found him unresponsive on the ground. A 19-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder in Crispin's death.

The funeral is at 10 this morning at Victory Church on Griffin Road in Lakeland, followed by A procession to Oakhill Cemetery. Officials say to expect significant traffic delays on Griffin Road, US 98 North and North Florida Ave.

Police are inviting mourners to leave flowers or mementos on Crispin's police vehicle, parked in front of the station.
