Caregivers Inspire Hip-Hop Song

If caregiving had a soundtrack, what genre would it be? Folk? Gospel? How about hip-hop with a dash of reggae?
That's the vibe of Perfect Harmony, an anthem written by Chad Harper and his colleagues. Harper, of New York City, was inspired to write Perfect Harmony after befriending a staff member of Harmony Home Health in Largo. He said a hip-hop song about caregiving isn't as big a stretch as it seems.
"I think that the sound of hip hop is much more universal than the lyrics of the average hip hop song. That’s why we created this project: because we know people love to dance to the beat and sound of hip hop, but often the lyrics don’t represent something positive."
The song's chorus goes: "All my caregivers around the world today / It’s time to lift you up! / It’s time to celebrate! / It’s time to give give give give… the love that you gave to our lives..."
The song's official release was Monday in Largo. You can download it... for a price. Proceeds benefit Harper's nonprofit Hip Hop Save Lives, which provides clean drinking water in Africa and Haiti. Details are at HealthyState.org.
