Hillsborough County Holds 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

TAMPA (2011-9-9) -

Hundreds gathered today in downtown Tampa beneath a giant American flag to remember those who died on September 11th ten years ago, and to honor everyone who's made sacrifices for their country since.

Five wreaths were placed on a beam from the world trade center wreckage, representing Fire Rescue, Law Enforcement, 9/11 Victims and Survivors, the Armed Forces, and Fallen Heroes.

Col. Lenny Richoux, commander of the 6th Air Mobility Wing at MacDill Air Force Base, thanked the people of Tampa for their support.

"Your unquestioning support of our armed forces: our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines, give us the strength to get the job done," said Richoux. "Tampa, you are amazing, and your support for the military is the best I’ve ever seen."

The ceremony ended with 1st graders from Rampello Downtown Partnership School joining military members on stage to sing "God Bless America."
