GOP Site Visit Set for August

Tampa Convention Center
TAMPA -

The Republican National Convention selection committee will arrive August 20th - a Sunday - and leave on Tuesday.

Vice President of Communications for the Tampa Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau, Karen Brand, says the area will have only 48 hours to impress the GOP representatives.

BRAND: One of the great selling points that we have is a world class airport that is just minutes from downtown. So certainly, their delegates getting in are going to have great access.

Another Florida selling point, Governor Jeb Bush is the president's brother.

BRAND: He's the honorary chair of our host committee trying to bring the convention to town. So that we would hope the governor's schedule would accommodate and allow and we certainly extended that invitation for him to participate. But, this is going to be a community wide effort.

Tampa is third on the list of four finalists set for visits by the nine member selection committee. After tours of Minneapolis and New York City, they will come to Tampa and then visit Cleveland last.
